Of the School's major goals are to provide teachers with a professional environment and to offer them a professional salary. In addition to a salary scale five to fifteen thousand dollars above the normal wages paid to teachers in North Carolina childcare centers, the School provides health and dental insurance for its teachers as well as seven weeks paid leave-time. Working time outside the classroom is provided weekly for teachers for planning and to meet with parents and other professionals. The School pays 50% of teachers' continuing education workshops and conferences, and each teaching team has an annual budget in excess of one thousand dollars to buy equipment and supplies for their classrooms.

A Bachelor's degree in Child Development and/or Early Childhood Education is an entry-level requirement for teaching staff at Lakewood Avenue Children's School. The School maintains an experimental environment for teachers and allows them freedom to plan their own class curricula. Teachers are encouraged to bring new ideas in teaching to the School. Developing a strong partnership among teachers and children and parents is the overriding goal of all teaching at the School.

Applicants for teaching positions at Lakewood Avenue Children's School must present a resume for evaluation by the staff at the School. All applicants have a lengthy interview with the Director and occasionally with small groups of parents. Finally, applicants spend a day working at the School and visiting each of the School's three classrooms. Teachers interested in applying to Lakewood Avenue Children's School should email a cover letter and resume to the School's Director, Marcia Brooks. Please use LACS APPLICANT in the subject line.
